Herlinda Cartagena, a certified nursing assistant at Life Care Center of Plano, Texas, received Life Care Centers of America’s Gulf States Region Whatever It Takes And Then Some Award on Aug. 29, 2018, for her dedication to customer service.
Executives from Life Care awarded Cartagena a cash prize during an awards ceremony at the company’s headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee. She was chosen from among hundreds of associates in the Gulf States Region and was one of only eight associates from Life Care’s more than 200 facilities nationwide to receive the award.
Cartagena was praised for her leadership in training CNA students from Plano Senior High School, as well as for a special act of caring in 2017.
On Nov. 16, the facility hosted its annual Thanksgiving dinner for residents and families. Cartagena volunteered to help residents and their guests with food and other items. Not only that, but she was one of the first associates to arrive for the event and assisted with decorating and setting up the room. She was one of the last to leave and helped residents get ready for bed after the dinner.
“I never thought I would receive this award,” said Cartagena. “I love to take care of people. This is my passion – to give care.”
Life Care Centers of America’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program rewards associates for extraordinary acts of kindness. Monthly awards are presented in Life Care facilities nationwide based on nominations from fellow associates, family members, residents and guests. Each facility then chooses an annual winner, from which the divisional winners are selected.
“Dedicated caregivers routinely go far above and beyond their job descriptions, and Herlinda Cartagena certainly demonstrates by her example their professionalism and compassion for the residents they serve,” said Beecher Hunter, Life Care president. “We are proud of Herlinda and the thousands she represents in their selfless approach to the needs of others.”
