Residents and associates at Life Care Center of Plano, Texas, had the chance to be cowboys and cowgirls for a day on May 17, 2018.
Western Day was part of the facility’s celebration of National Skilled Nursing Care Week, which ran from May 13 – 19. The activities team set up a Western backdrop with some props for residents and associates to take pictures – usually with a good old cowboy or a Wanted poster.
“It made me feel young again,” said resident Bessie Armstrong.
Residents enjoyed other themed events throughout the week as well, including a Mother’s Day tea party, Crazy Hat Day, 1950s Day, Sports Day, a barbecue cookout and Patriot Day.
“Nursing Home Week is the busiest time of the year because it is about residents, associates and family members to come together and celebrate,” said Falguni Desai, activity director. “This gives me as the activity director an opportunity to show appreciation to every individual serving our seniors and honor all those who contribute to our nation’s nursing homes. Although it was lots of work, lots of planning, at the end it all paid off because everyone enjoyed it.”
